Designated Term Pastor, Dr. Dean M. Kucera
Our pastor, Dr. Dean Kučera came to serve our congregation in 2024 from Madison, Wisconsin. He was born in Chicago, and spent his life in both Illinois and Wisconsin respectively.
Dr. Kučera earned a M.Div. from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, a doctorate in Jewish Christian Studies from Meadville Lombard (Unitarian Universalist) Theological school at the University of Chicago, M.A studies in counseling psychology Governors State University, doctoral studies in clinical psychology (PsyD) Illinois School of Professional Psychology and training in Ericksonian hypnotherapy. Presently his passion is in the field of quantum physics and loves to study the latest finding and research in science (physics) and near-death experiences, (NDEs).
Dr Kučera loves preaching practical down-to-earth sermons. He would love to chat in person with anyone wishing to meet him and learn more about First Church. He invites others to share insights into how they would build a church they would be excited to attend...a spiritual not religious church that invites wisdom from all faith traditions; is informal and welcoming and weds science to our many faith journeys. He wants to hear from you.
Some of his hobbies include cooking (Hungarian, Czech), folk music from Hungary and Romania, art, painting (oils) and wood working. He loves swimming, occasional bike rides and traveling, the art of silence and meditation. Being of Hungarian and Czech origins, he speaks Hungarian (Magyar) and has taught beginning Hungarian language in Chicago.
He supports the openness and affirming position of the United Church of Christ (LGBQT+) with his parish and hopes this inclusivity is warmly felt and lived out in the life of First Church. You are welcome to join us on Sunday morning.
We want you here!!!!
